Abstract
Recent scientific studies show that Ukraine is currently experiencing a demographic crisis. The population is decreasing for various reasons, the mortality rate exceeds the birth rate by 2.8 times, and the number of divorces is growing. In this context, the issue of population reproduction becomes socially significant. In society, this function is fulfilled by the family, and under the current wartime conditions, a key role in family preservation belongs to women. Modern social conditions negatively affect the younger generation. An increase in the number of children raised by a single parent is predicted, which may reduce their ability to create a family in adulthood due to the absence of a model of complementary spousal interaction. Parents often lack the resources to build full-fledged parent-child relationships and provide adequate upbringing. All these factors have a negative impact on the younger generation and their psychological readiness for marriage. An analysis of literature shows that the psychological factors of marital readiness have been studied in detail, while the influence of family upbringing remains insufficiently explored. In particular, there is a lack of research tools for studying specific aspects of upbringing, such as family traditions. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to develop a tool for studying family traditions and to examine their influence on young women’s readiness for marriage. The proposed Family Traditions Questionnaire, tested on a sample (n = 30), demonstrated internal reliability. Validity was confirmed by a statistically significant correlation between the general index of family traditions and family cohesion (Rs = 0.564, p < 0.001), which is theoretically expected. The results indicate that traditions in the parental family contribute to the development of personality traits that are essential for successful marital life. It was found that the quantitative presence of family traditions is directly proportional to young women’s psychological readiness for marriage. The practical significance of the study lies in the possibility of using the findings in preventive and counseling work. The results show that the formation of family traditions promotes both family cohesion (potential stability) and the development of readiness for marriage in adolescent girls.
