Abstract

The article examines the problem of Ukrainians experiencing family crises in wartime. A family crisis is interpreted as an aggravation of contradictions in family interaction, a sharp deterioration in the rhythm of family life, when its usual mechanisms of functioning cannot cope with new challenges. An empirical study involving 27 married couples confirmed the hypothesis of an increase in the intensity and aggravation of family crises in Ukrainian families after the start of a full-scale war. A characteristic feature of experiencing a family crisis is the increase in negative emotions associated with family interaction, especially anxiety and fear, recorded in married couples, reflected in respondents of both sexes. An increase in the number of marital and parent-child conflicts, especially open ones, expressed by surveyed women and men, was found. It was found that more than 90% of women and more than 60% of men confirmed the connection between the increase in family conflicts and a full scale war. The negative dynamics of emotional support, trusting communication and family cohesion, namely their weakening in many families, also reflects the presence of a family crisis. Some of the women and men who confirmed the negative dynamics of satisfaction with their own marriage can be considered as potential carriers of crisis experiences associated with marital and family relationships. It has been established that the determination of family crises in war conditions acquires a multidimensional character, which involves the influence of both external factors (security violations, migration processes) and internal (emotional exhaustion, decreased trust, activity overload, age crises of family members). It has been found that against the background of active crisis experiences, spouses rarely seek psychological help from specialists. However, to activate the adaptive potential of Ukrainians and constructive strategies for overcoming family crises in war conditions, psychological assistance and support from the state and public organizations are critically important.
