Abstract

This review article analyses the informational potential and historiographical and folkloristic significance of contemporary editions of works by Ukrainian scholars who were repressed in the totalitarian USSR. The object of the study is the republication of scientific materials first published in 1931 by the Ethnographic Commission of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences (edited by A. Loboda and V. Bilyi) in one of the issues of the Ethnographic Herald. The article also examines archival sources from the Scientific Funds of Manuscripts and Sound Recordings of the M. Rylsky Institute of Art Studies, Folklore and Ethnology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which were included by the compilers in the modern edition. In the context of the historical and social realities of a particular era, a contextual analysis of individual folk songs, recorded prognostic and demonological ideas that functioned in the Chumak environment was carried out.
