Abstract

The modern functioning of small and medium-sized businesses in the economy of Ukraine is burdened by the war, the constant challenges of which negatively affect business. The war in Ukraine caused significant regional differences in the impact on small and medium-sized businesses. The development of small and medium-sized businesses is one of the measures to strengthen the national economy during the war period and its sustainable recovery in the post-war period. The purpose of this article is to analyze the regional features of the development of small and medium-sized businesses in Ukraine during the war. The study was conducted using the following methods: monographic, analysis and synthesis, comparison, statistical analysis, generalization. Results. The article clarifies the negative impact of military actions on small and medium-sized businesses, which are territorially located in the eastern and southern regions. The war forced some businesses to cease their existence, and some were relocated to safer regions of Ukraine. The largest number of businesses moved to the Kyiv region, in second place is the Lviv region. However, there are frequent cases of businesses returning to their territories when the situation improves. Small and medium-sized businesses located in different regions assess their development prospects differently. Every fifth enterprise in Western Ukraine expects an increase in production and sales volumes of 50% next year. Modern Lviv and the Lviv region occupy a leading position in terms of economic growth rates, this region can be safely put in second place after Kyiv. Conclusions. Regional differences in the development of small and medium-sized businesses are significant. Most enterprises in Ukraine require relatively small investments to support their activities, with the main emphasis on small and micro enterprises.
