Abstract

The article examines the development of the children's illustrated book in a historical and cultural context, from the first educational publications to modern multimedia formats. It examines how the function of illustration has changed over time - from a simple visual accompaniment to the text to an independent artistic and pedagogical tool. The key functions of illustration in children's literature are analyzed: explicative (explanatory), cognitive, emotional, and aesthetic. The author emphasizes that illustration not only helps children better understand the content of the book, but also contributes to the development of imagination, the formation of visual culture, and artistic taste from an early age. Attention is also paid to modern trends in children's book design: the use of minimalism, simple forms, the combination of traditional graphic techniques with digital ones, as well as innovative approaches in typography, including adaptation for children with special needs. The emphasis is on the role of interface solutions, such as interactive elements, animation, and 3D formats, which turn the reading process into an exciting game. The influence of environmental and cultural factors on the design of a modern children's book is examined, in particular the use of biomaterials, national motifs, and local ornaments that shape the child's identity and open the children's book to the world.
