Abstract
The article is devoted to a comprehensive study of the peculiarities of analyzing the economic activity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) under the conditions of the contemporary economy. The relevance of this research stems from the fact that SMEs constitute the backbone of national economies, ensuring employment, innovation, and regional development, while simultaneously facing multiple external and internal challenges that necessitate the improvement of analytical approaches to managing their activities. The organizational foundations of economic analysis are disclosed, with a particular focus on clarifying its objectives, tasks, and information support. The study emphasizes the role of reliable and timely information resources, which form the basis for making effective managerial decisions and for ensuring transparency in business processes. A special emphasis is placed on analytical methods employed in evaluating the performance of SMEs, including traditional financial and non-financial indicators, as well as diagnostic and strategic approaches that allow for the identification of hidden risks, growth reserves, and sustainability factors. The article outlines the possibilities for refining these methods to better meet the challenges of a dynamic market environment. The proposed analytical approaches are shown to enhance the effectiveness of managerial decision-making, mitigate risks, strengthen competitive advantages, improve business models, and foster the adaptive capacity ofenterprises to respond swiftly to transformational processes in the economy. The study presents the stages of economic activity analysis and the specific indicators determined at each stage, highlighting their contribution to developing an integrated and comprehensive evaluation of enterprise performance. Particular attention is drawn to the application of modern analytical instruments and digital technologies, which ensure deeper diagnostics, facilitate scenario forecasting, and support strategic planning. In this context, the use of advanced tools such as SWOT analysis, business model analysis, and diagnostic methods becomes a prerequisite for aligning SME activities with long-term sustainable development goals. The prospects for further research are associated with the development of integrated indicators that combine financial and non-financial parameters, thus enabling a holistic assessment of the effectiveness and resilience of SMEs. Such indicators may incorporate environmental, social, and governance(ESG) criteria, innovation capacity, and digitalization level, which would significantly expand the methodological toolkit of economic analysis and increase its practical relevance for both managers and policymakers.
