Abstract

Kyrychenko S.O. Design of the Book “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” by Mykhailo Kotsiubynskyi. Qualification Paper. Kyiv: Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University, 2025. 68 p. The qualification paper is devoted to the study of the fundamental principles of book design, the influence of visual elements on the perception of fiction literature, the role of visual design in the popularization of literature, and the direct development of the book design for “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors” by Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky. The research analyzes theoretical foundations of book design, modern methods and techniques of graphic decoration, as well as the role of illustration in the context of literary text. Special attention is paid to the selection of color schemes, page composition, and typography that correspond to the style of the work and its target audience. Examples of successful illustrated editions are reviewed, current trends in publishing are identified, and the impact of design on the perception and popularity of the book is examined. The practical part of the work includes the creation of an original layout taking into account the requirements of modern printing and design standards. The research results can be applied in publishing, graphic design, and advertising to enhance the attractiveness and competitiveness of books in the market.
