Abstract

The language of mass communication has increasingly attracted the attention of linguists over recent decades. The syntactic features of Ukrainian media discourse have been described in the works of such scientists as M. Vintoniv, I. Zavalniuk, N. Kondratenko, T. Koval and others. Expressive tools of political speech are outlined in the collective monograph by M. Vintoniv, T. Vintoniv, and Yu. Mala. However, expressive syntax in presidential discourse has not yet been the subject of a separate linguistic study. The purpose of the paper is to analyze the pragmatic manifestations of expressive syntax tools comprehensively in the speeches of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The purpose of the study determined the following tasks: to analyze the syntactic tools used in political discourse and determine their pragmatic significance; to describe the pragmatic features of syntactic tools for implementing expressive modality in political speeches; to identify the functions of repetition in emphasizing key ideas, creating emotional influence on the audience, and forming the rhythm of speeches.
