Abstract

In January 2024, despite wartime challenges and air raid alerts, a scholarly conference was held at the M. S. Hrushevsky Odesa Regional Universal Scientific Library, dedicated to the 180th anniversary of Mykhailo Komarov – a key figure in Odesa’s Ukrainian cultural movement. The event brought together researchers from various regions of Ukraine, who highlighted Komarov’s role as the compiler of the first Russian–Ukrainian dictionary, the founder of the national bibliography, and the leader of Odesa’s “Prosvita” society. Participants discussed the preservation of his legacy, its memorialization, and the restoration of his name within the contemporary cultural space of Odesa. The conference marked an important step in the revival of Komarov studies and in exploring new meanings of his work for today’s struggle for Ukrainian identity.
