Abstract

In the process of studying the lexical-grammatical category of the state of the Old Germanic languages (hereinafter referred to as the CS), the key task is to recreate the most complete picture of its functioning in the language system. For this, it is important to take into account not only the chronological framework, but also the genre diversity of texts, since grammatical categories manifest themselves differently depending on the style and function of the language. In heroic epics, stable formulas and repetitive constructions are often used, which makes it possible to track the regularity of the use of the CS. In religious texts, a canonized language norm has been formed, which fixes classical morphological forms and original passive constructions. In poetry and sagas with complex rhythm, such as the Edda, rare or state forms (inert) are recorded, which have not been preserved in other genres. To recreate the evolution of the CS, it is important that the sample covers early and late works, as well as different language areas: West Germanic and Goto-Scandinavian. Multi-genre texts allow us to compare the formation of the KS in different contexts and styles, which increases the reliability of conclusions. The study of the genre diversity of Old Germanic works is an important component of the study of their literary and linguistic evolution.
