Abstract
This article investigates the issue of psychosomatic disorders, which are increasingly prevalent in modern society due to chronic stress, information overload, and war-related crises, particularly in Ukraine. Psychosomatic disorders, emerging at the intersection of psycho-emotional and physiological processes, manifest as somatic symptoms such as headaches, gastrointestinal issues, or cardiovascular problems, driven by anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine, these disorders pose a significant challenge, especially for individuals with traumatic experiences, including internally displaced persons (IDPs). The article explores the theoretical foundations of psychosomatics, drawing on the works of Z. Freud, H. Selye, F. Alexander, F. Dunbar, and contemporary researchers who emphasize the role of emotional conflicts, alexithymia, and irrational beliefs in the onset of psychosomatic conditions. Particular focus is placed on art therapy as an effective method of psychological intervention that fosters the potential of individuals prone to psychosomatic disorders. Art therapy, including clay therapy, fairy tale therapy, and color therapy, facilitates self-expression, reduces anxiety, promotes emotional regulation, and aids in integrating traumatic experiences through creative processes. Based on a review of literature and empirical evidence, art therapy is shown to activate internal resources, enhance stress resilience, and support psychophysiological recovery. The article also highlights the limitations of traditional medical approaches that overlook psycho-emotional factors and underscores the need for a holistic approach combining psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, relaxation, and art therapy. The findings point to the necessity of systematizing methodological guidelines and conducting further empirical research to validate the efficacy of art therapy. The article offers practical recommendations for psychologists on integrating art therapy into the rehabilitation of individuals with psychosomatic disorders, particularly in war-affected contexts, and emphasizes its potential for fostering emotional stability and social adaptation.
