Abstract
The problem of domestic violence remains extremely acute both worldwide and in Ukraine. This phenomenon is one of the most common forms of human rights violations, especially children's rights. Domestic violence is often perceived by society exclusively as physical violence within the family. However, it is a much broader concept that also includes psychological, economic, and sexual violence. Such manifestations often go unnoticed or are perceived as “normal.” For example, cruel physical punishment of children under the guise of “upbringing” is a form of domestic violence that many people still do not associate with a violation of children's rights. Special attention should be paid to gender-based violence (GBV)—violence directed at a person because of their gender, or violence perpetrated against persons of a particular gender disproportionately. Roma are traditionally one of the most discriminated and socially vulnerable ethnic groups in Ukraine. Their access to education, healthcare, employment, and social services was significantly limited even in peacetime. The war has only exacerbated the situation—many Roma families have lost their homes, sources of income, and access to basic social services. As a result, social tensions and incidents of violence within communities have increased significantly. Gender relations in Roma communities are traditionally patriarchal. Such communities are often characterized by strict gender roles, clear divisions of labor, and behavioral norms for men and women. Such communities are often dominated by strict gender roles and a clear division of responsibilities and behavioral norms for men and women. These norms often do not allow for gender equality, and women find themselves in a dependent position – economically, psychologically, and socially. Early marriage and teenage pregnancy remain common, which in turn further complicates Roma women's opportunities to obtain education, work, and make decisions about their own lives.
