Abstract

The article presents a comprehensive lexico-semantic analysis of war discourse in contemporary Ukrainian song lyrics as one of the most sensitive and dynamic segments of the linguistic worldview shaped by the Russian–Ukrainian war. The study is grounded in the understanding of war as an existential event that profoundly transforms not only social reality but also linguistic mechanisms of conceptualizing experience, activating processes of lexical renewal, semantic re-evaluation, and the formation of new value-based and semantic dominants. Particular attention is paid to the song text as a syncretic phenomenon in which the verbal component interacts with music and performance while remaining the primary carrier of meaning, ideological emphasis, and collective emotion. The aim of the article is to identify the thematic and semantic dominants of war-related vocabulary in contemporary song discourse and to outline the principal lexico-semantic fields through which the experience of war is verbalized. The analysis focuses on lexical means representing combat actions and modern weaponry, the semantics of loss, death, and memory, family-centered and anthropocentric models of interpreting war, as well as spatial and geographical vocabulary as a tool for constructing a symbolic map of war. The study demonstrates that war-related lexis in song texts forms an integrated and hierarchically organized system combining the material concreteness of military reali ties, the personalized experience of loss, the humanization of war through images of family and children, and the sacralization of Ukrainian space through toponyms and images of land and home. It is argued that war song discourse functions not as a neutral chronicle of events but as a medium of collective memory, identity formation, and emotional support, simultaneously performing mobilizing, memorial, and therapeutic functions. The findings highlight the significant role of song creativity in the linguistic conceptualization of war and in shaping contemporary Ukrainian linguocultural consciousness.
