Abstract
The article presents a comprehensive scholarly analysis of the phenomenon of overcoming personal crisis through the means of virtual visualization of the self-image. The growing influence of digital technologies leads to a transformation of self-presentation and metareflection on social media, which significantly alters approaches to understanding and overcoming critical periods in personal development. Based on an examination of interdisciplinary concepts, empirical studies, and contemporary practices, the paper explores the mechanisms of virtual identity formation, the role of visual content and aesthetics in online communication, and the functions of self-presentation in social networks. Particular attention is devoted to the psychological determinants of employing virtual resources to address both normative and existential crises: the phenomenon of self-reflection, the stages of virtual interpretation and reconstruction of the self-image, and the functionality of visual self-presentation as a resource for sustaining self-worth, subjective well-being, and coping strategies. The analysis demonstrates how the visualization of the self in virtual space contributes to the psychotherapeutic effect of processing negative emotions, reorganizing past experiences, and discovering new sources of meaning. It is shown that the ability to choose an avatar, apply filters, engage in digital creativity, and participate in communicative practices enhances subjective control, strengthens identity, and substantially fosters positive adaptive mechanisms that support constructive resolution of personal crises. However, the article also emphasizes the risks of developing dependence on external approval, shifting emphasis from the real to the virtual, and the potential loss of self-coherence, highlighting the importance of critical analysis and reflection on one’s own digital behavior. Theoretical and practical conclusions are grounded in current research in personality psychology, the philosophy of self-identity, digital anthropology, as well as clinical and social psychotherapy.
