Abstract

A theoretical analysis of psychological literature on the problem of adaptation has been carried out. It has been established that the adaptation of servicemen to the conditions of military service under martial law is a specific type of adaptation, which involves not only adjustment to new circumstances but also a profound transformation of the individual, including their value orientations, worldview, and behavioral strategies. It has been found that the level of adaptation directly affects the ability to effectively perform combat tasks, maintain discipline, and preserve psychological resilience. At the same time, the process is complicated by a number of factors: stressful situations and psychologically traumatic events, the age and educational level of mobilized individuals, previous life and professional experience, uncertainty regarding the duration of service, and the risk of suicidal behavior. It has been proven that the effectiveness of the adaptation process depends on individual psychological characteristics, in particular on temperament, the level of stress resistance, and the degree of military-professional orientation. A direct correlation between the type of temperament and the nature of adaptation processes has been revealed. The conditions for successful adaptation of servicemen have been outlined, including: purposeful management of the formation of a professional worldview; an individual approach to adaptation programs; rejection of the principle of collective responsibility, which diminishes the role of commanders; the formation of military units taking into account the mental and socio-psychological level of their members; strengthening of military-patriotic education, which determines the motivational component. Special attention has been paid to motivational factors that significantly influence the level of adaptation. These include adequate financial, food, clothing, social, and housing support for servicemen and their families. It has been proven that a decent standard of living for servicemen and their relatives contributes to focusing on the military task performance and reduces psycho-emotional stress. In the course of the study, the following were also assessed: levels of resilience to combat stress, forms of deviant behavior, signs of suicidal risk, and the degree of military-professional orientation.
