Abstract

This master’s thesis examines the information–psychological operations (IPSO) conducted by the Russian Federation against Ukraine during 2022–2025, as well as the role of journalism in their detection, neutralization, and prevention. The research analyzes the key narratives of Russian information attacks, the mechanisms of their dissemination across social media and traditional media, and their impact on public opinion both within Ukraine and abroad. Particular attention is paid to methods used for identifying IPSO, including content analysis, OSINT techniques, monitoring systems, and digital analytics tools. The thesis also explores the resilience of Ukraine’s information environment, the response strategies of state and non–state institutions, and the criteria for assessing the effectiveness of journalistic materials in countering disinformation. Based on theoretical and empirical analysis, the study formulates recommendations for journalists on improving fact–checking processes, using sources responsibly, constructing analytical materials, and minimizing the risk of unintentionally amplifying manipulative content. The findings provide a deeper understanding of the structure of contemporary Russian IPSO, their influence on perceptions of the war and geopolitical processes, and outline ways to strengthen information security through professional journalism. The work contributes to the academic discourse on hybrid threats, strategic communications, and media literacy in wartime.
