Abstract
Introduction. In today's conditions of economic instability, social transformations and growing global risks, the issue of ensuring sustainable well-being of the population is gaining particular importance. The public sector plays a key role in shaping an environment that combines economic efficiency, social justice and long-term orientation to human needs. It is through public management mechanisms, the system of social services, investments in human capital and infrastructure development that the state and local governments are able to influence the quality of life of the population and the level of its social security. Materials and methods. The presented research is based on the analysis of the theoretical foundations of the development of the public sector, as well as conceptual provisions on ensuring the well-being of the population in the conditions of transformational changes. The main research methods are: the method of analysis, the method of synthesis, the logical method, the method of generalization, the method of comparison, the graphical and tabular method. The purpose of the presented work is to determine the role of the public sector in ensuring sustainable well-being of the population. Results and discussion. The study found that the public sector plays a decisive role in shaping the sustainable well-being of the population, combining economic, social and institutional mechanisms of influence. It was found that the effectiveness of public spending and the quality of governance directly correlate with the level of accessibility of basic services, social protection and citizens' trust in the authorities. At the same time, it is the orientation of state policy towards long-term development goals, rather than short-term fiscal effects, that ensures sustainable positive results for the well-being of the population. The consistency of the scientific and theoretical approach to ensuring the sustainable well-being of the population is proposed. Conclusions. The results of the generalization of theoretical approaches and practical aspects indicate that the public sector acts as a system-forming factor in ensuring sustainable well-being of the population. Its influence is manifested not only through the redistribution of resources and the provision of public services, but also through the formation of institutional conditions for economic growth, reducing social inequality and increasing the level of trust in society. The effective activity of the public sector contributes to strengthening social security, developing human potential and increasing the adaptability of the economic system to crisis challenges. Thus, ensuring sustainable well-being of the population requires a comprehensive approach, within which the public sector acts as a coordinator of the interaction of economic, social and managerial development tools.
