Abstract

The problem of domestic violence remains critically urgent in Ukraine, particularly among socially vulnerable families with children. This paper focuses on gender-based violence (GBV) and its manifestations in marginalized communities, specifically Roma communities. It explores the complex interplay between traditional patriarchal norms, systemic discrimination, and socio-economic hardship that increases the vulnerability of Roma women and children to various forms of violence. The impact of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine has intensified these challenges, exacerbating poverty, isolation, and access to essential services. The study highlights the low level of awareness in Roma communities regarding GBV, the cultural and linguistic barriers faced by social services, and the urgent need for culturally sensitive educational materials and comprehensive prevention strategies. The paper advocates for community engagement, early detection mechanisms, and the formation of a zero-tolerance attitude toward violence in Ukrainian society.
