Abstract

The article presents the theoretical foundations of psychological research on the emotional expressions of young children. The theoretical foundations of the study are presented, including the works of scientists who have studied the expression of emotions. It has been found that early childhood is the most important period for a child's socio-emotional well-being and general mental development. From birth to age 3, the main patterns of emotional interaction with others and specific emotional adaptation strategies related to the child's experience are developed and transmitted throughout life. The problem of emotional development is directly related to the issues of mental health of a person at all stages of his development. It has been established that infants from the moment of birth have the ability to distinguish emotional expressions on the faces of adults who are near them, as well as to imitate the proposed facial expressions. It is important that infants can use emotions not only to reflect signals "from the outside", but also to signal to an adult about their own state, and this is one of the main functions of emotions in the early stages of a child's development. The emphasis is on the fact that the child and the adult are included in the chain of emotional exchange, influencing each other and changing each other's behavior. At the same time, the adult can, thanks to the child's emotional signals, understand the child's emotional state and provide adequate assistance in regulating her own. It has been proven that a child's emotional signaling allows the person caring for the child to assess both the degree of his satisfaction and the need for intervention. This is because, from birth, the infant has certain biological mechanisms that underlie the need to establish an emotional connection and to exhibit behaviors that compel others to be near him and take care of him. These behaviors are adaptive, as they provide the baby with the care necessary for survival. As an argument for significance, the fact that a child, at an early age, shows a special emotionality in perceiving the surrounding world is highlighted; this is his characteristic mental trait. Emotions not only express certain features of the child's behavioral motivation, but also play a significant role in the implementation of these motives.
