Abstract
The article analyzes the creativity of the famous foreign instrumental jazz musicians of the second half of the 20th century in the context of their use of creative and performing music-making techniques. It was determined that the formation and development of jazz music was influenced by the following creative and performance techniques: collective, solo, chorus, modal, prepared and unprepared. Attention is focused on the expediency of using the concept of «creative and performing techniques» in relation to the analysis of jazz instrumental music. This makes it possible to carry out a more thorough, comprehensive analysis of both the work of outstanding personalities of jazz music and jazz in general. It was found that the representatives of the bebop style and styles derived from it (hardbop, postbop) relied on and developed the techniques of solo and chorus improvisation in their music making. It should also be noted that their improvisations were not spontaneous and unprepared, but were carefully thought out in advance. Representatives of later styles of jazz (modal jazz, free jazz, fusion) have already actively developed the techniques of modal, collective and unprepared (spontaneous) improvisations. At the same time, it should be noted that these techniques do not exist separately from each other. They are in an inextricable relationship, complementing each other. There are rare cases when one technique serves as a starting point for actualizing the development of another, for example: choral – modal, prepared – unprepared. It was found that instrumentalist jazz musicians in their work could rely on and develop various creative and performing techniques, depending on the period of their work. The article determines that the creative and performing techniques of music making (improvisation) influenced and determined the features of the creative activity of foreign jazz instrumentalists of the second half of the 20th century, and vice versa, their activities affected the development of creative and performing techniques.
