Abstract

The article presents a comprehensive theoretical analysis of parenthood as a complex, multidimensional phenomenon that combines biological, sociocultural, and psychological aspects. The authors consider parenthood through the prism of different approaches: as a social institution, a specific activity of care and upbringing, and a special stage in an individual's life path. Special attention is paid to the differentiation of the characteristics of parenthood by form (motherhood and fatherhood from the position of a man), family structure, and degree of kinship. The work analyzes in detail the transformation of parental roles within the historical development of society. The authors critically rethink the concept of "maternal instinct", proving its social conditioning and evolutionary nature. An important place in the study is given to fatherhood, its specific styles, and the factors that influence fathers' involvement in raising a child. The problem of stereotyping the "incompetence" of modern fathers and the negative consequences of "father absence" for the harmonious development of a child are highlighted, particularly in the context of the current socio-political situation in Ukraine. The article emphasizes the need for psychological support and “parental education”. The authors argue that the educational potential of the family directly depends on the moral and psychological climate and the psychological and pedagogical culture of the parents. The main models of family assistance are considered: pedagogical, social, psychological, diagnostic, and medical. The essence of psychological support as a system of professional activity aimed at creating optimal conditions for the self-realization of the child’s personality and supporting parents in crisis situations is determined. The scientific novelty lies in the systematization of areas of parenting support, which include supporting the natural development of the parental role, guiding the process of family upbringing, and assisting in extreme conditions. The practical significance of the article lies in the potential to use the proposed models to improve the work of psychological services in educational institutions and family social support centers.
