Abstract

The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the concert and pedagogical activity of Anatoliy Semenovych Kogan, a distinguished Ukrainian flutist, within the broader context of Ukrainian musical culture. It examines the key stages of Kogan’s life and artistic career, tracing his early musical education, professional training at the Kyiv Music School named after R. Glière and the Kyiv State Conservatory named after P. I. Tchaikovsky, and subsequent development as a performer and pedagogue. Special attention is given to his achievements in performance, including solo recitals, chamber music collaborations, and work with major orchestras in Ukraine and internationally, such as the Kyiv Chamber Trio, Kyiv Chamber Orchestra, Kharkiv and Crimean Symphony Orchestras, and the European Chamber Orchestra. The article discusses his repertoire, which encompasses works by Bach, Handel, Hummel, Enescu, Carulli, Lysenko, Bartók, and Mysliveček, and highlights the significance of his recordings for Ukrainian radio and television as a means of preserving and promoting musical heritage. The study also explores Kogan’s pedagogical activity after relocating to Israel in 1990, including his teaching roles at the conservatories of Rehovot and Shoam, his mentorship of young musicians, and his contributions to the international music education community. By analyzing both performance practice and pedagogical methods, the article demonstrates the inseparable connection between concert activity and music education in Kogan’s career, emphasizing how his professional achievements have influenced the development of Ukrainian musical traditions and contributed to their dissemination on a global scale. The research is based on archival materials, contemporary publications, interviews, and biographical sources, providing an integrated perspective on Kogan’s multifaceted contributions to music performance and education. Ultimately, the article highlights the enduring impact of Kogan’s artistic and pedagogical work, positioning him as a key figure in the advancement and international recognition of Ukrainian musical culture.
