Abstract
Introduction. Shotokan karate occupies a special place in the system of martial arts as one of the most popular and structurally organized styles, characterized by a profound philosophical foundation, a rich historical development, and a wide global presence. In the context of globalization and the growing interest in combat sports, Shotokan karate competitions are becoming increasingly important as a means of promoting a healthy lifestyle and developing discipline, fortitude, and national identity through sport. Aim — To determine the specifics of organizing and conducting Shotokan karate competitions in Ukraine. Material and methods: analysis and synthesis of scientific and methodological literature, documentary sources, systematization and generalization, comparison, interrogation. The results. It has been highlighted that the main Shotokan karate competitions held in Ukraine can be divided into two directions: sports-oriented and style-oriented. Accordingly, separate federations are responsible for organizing competitions in each direction. The most significant problematic aspects in the organization of Shotokan karate competitions in Ukraine have been identified. Various Competition Regulations of the Championships of Ukraine organized by different federations were analyzed, specifically those of the Ukrainian Karate Federation, the Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Federation of Ukraine, and representatives of other style-oriented organizations. During the analysis of the documentation, differences in approaches to organizing competitions were revealed. Key obstacles hindering the development of the national competition system and priority paths for reform have been determined. Conclusions. The modern system of Shotokan karate competitions in Ukraine has a decentralized structure. Despite a generally high assessment of tournament organization, the key barriers to the effective organization of Shotokan karate competitions remain a lack of funding, insufficient objectivity in refereeing, and fragmentation in the systems of conducting competitions across different karate federations. Experts see the resolution of these problems in the digitalization of competition management processes, the creation of a unified system for conducting competitions, and the certification of specialists involved in the organization and conduct of Shotokan karate competitions.
