Abstract

Volodymyr Antonovych's Kyiv School of Historians educated about forty outstanding and talented scientists who formed the elite of Ukrainian historical science. Its activity falls within the fourth period of the School of Historians at St. Volodymyr University in the 19th century. Representatives of the Volodymyr Antonovych's Kyiv School of Historians – Vasyl Lyaskoronsky, Vasyl Danylevych, Oleksandr Hrushevskyi occupy an honorable place among Ukrainian historians of the late 19th – first third of the 20th century, and belong to the scientific elite of Ukrainian historical science. The Volodymyr Antonovych's Kyiv School of Historians was distinguished by the complexity of the research, the thoroughness of the source base and scientific apparatus of research, and deep penetration into the essence of the problem. The same features characterize the scientific legacy of its representatives – Vasyl Lyaskoronsky, Vasyl Danylevych, and Oleksandr Hrushevsky. The scientific achievements of representatives of the Volodymyr Antonovych's Kyiv School of Historians provide grounds for considering it the first national school of research into the history of Ukraine. The purpose of the article: to analyze some works of historians of Ukraine who studied the personalities of Vasyl Lyaskoronsky, Vasyl Danylevych, and Oleksandr Hrushevsky in the 1920s – the first quarter of the 21st century. The methodological basis of the study is the use of historical-chronological, retrospective, biographical, comparative-historical, systemic-structural, and historical-typological methods. The life and scientific heritage of Vasyl Lyaskoronsky, Vasyl Danylevych, and Oleksandr Hrushevsky have not lost their significance today; they await a thorough study, comprehension, and popularization by the younger generation of Ukrainian researchers in the first quarter of the 21st century.
