Abstract
Higher and lower mythology — in contemporary religious studies, ethnology, and mythological studies—is an established division of mythological systems into two levels: myths about gods, demigods, and heroes — that is, beings endowed with sacred status (higher mythology) — and myths about numerous nature spirits and local demonic beings that are integrated into people’s everyday lives (lower mythology, folk demonology).
