Abstract

The scientific article identifies the educational and upbringing potential of the educational environment of a higher education institution in the formation of social cohesion of student youth. The conducted theoretical analysis demonstrates that the social cohesion of student youth is an important prerequisite for the effective functioning of the academic community and a factor in shaping the active civic position of future specialists. In the context of contemporary social transformations, higher education institutions perform not only an educational but also an important socialization and upbringing function, contributing to the development of young people’s social capital and strengthening social solidarity.The study established that the educational environment of a higher education institution acts as a comprehensive socio-pedagogical space that combines material, organizational, and socio-psychological conditions for the formation of students’ social interaction. Its structural components include spatial, content-technological, and socio-psychological elements that create prerequisites for the development of communication, cooperation, and integration of student youth into the academic community.It was found that educational and social practices implemented within the educational environment play an important role in the formation of social cohesion. Such practices include the activities of student self-government bodies, participation in volunteer and social projects, the development of a culture of academic integrity, the use of interactive teaching methods, and the involvement of students in extracurricular activities. It is through these mechanisms that the experience of collective activity, mutual support, and responsibility is formed.Particular importance in this process belongs to the teacher’s activity as a facilitator of the educational process and a moderator of social interaction. By creating an atmosphere of trust, openness, and partnership, theteacher contributes to the development of constructive communication among students, the formation of a culture of tolerance and mutual respect, which is an important condition for building a cohesive academic community.The proposed conceptual model of the formation of social cohesion among student youth makes it possible to consider the educational environment of a higher education institution as a system of interconnected components and practices that contribute to the development ofsocial capital within student groups. The implementation of educational, upbringing, and social mechanisms of interaction in this environment ensures the formation of trust, shared values, and a sense of belonging to the academic community.Thus, strengthening the educational and upbringing potential of the educational environment of higher education institutions is an important direction for the development of modern higher education. The formation of cohesive student youth contributes not only to the effectiveness of the educational process but also to strengthening social resilience and civic solidarity, which is of particular importance at the current stage of Ukraine’s development.
