Abstract
The article examines the role of environmental education in the formation of human capital in the context of the digital economy. It substantiates that contemporary digital transformations change the requirements for the quality of human capital, emphasizing the need to combine digital, professional, and environmental competencies. It is emphasized that the development of digital technologies is accompanied by increasing anthropogenic pressure on the environment, which enhances the importance of environmental awareness as a factor of labor force competitiveness. The paper analyzes scientific approaches of domestic and foreign scholars to the use of digital technologies in environmental education, including online platforms, massive open online courses, virtual laboratories, geographic information systems, and immersive technologies. It is determined that the integration of environmental education into the digital educational space contributes to the development of environmental competence, the improvement of digital skills, and the strengthening of the innovative potential of human capital. The study emphasizes the compliance of environmental education development with European standards and strategic EU guidelines, in particular the European Green Deal, the Key Competences for Lifelong Learning Framework, and the EuropeanDigital Competence Framework (DigComp). The existence of challenges related to the fragmented integration of environmental knowledge into formal educational programs, infrastructural constraints, and insufficient training of teaching staff is identified. It is concluded that environmental education in the context of digitalization is an important factor in forming competitive, innovation-driven, and socially responsible human capital oriented toward the principles of sustainable development.
