Abstract

Cretan-Mycenaean mythology, Aegean mythology—a complex of religious and mythological beliefs of the Bronze Age Aegean civilization (c. 3000–1100 BCE), which emerged as a result of the synthesis of the indigenous Minoan beliefs of Crete and the Indo-European cults of the Achaeans of mainland Greece; served as the primary foundation for the formation of Hellenic mythology.
