Abstract

The problem of postural disorders, particularly hyperkyphosis and Scheuermann’s disease, is a significant socio-medical component of modern healthcare, as it directly affects adolescents’ quality of life, physical development, tolerance for physical activity, and ability to learn. According to epidemiological studies, the prevalence of pathological kyphotic deformities among children and adolescents ranges from 7% to 10%, with an upward trend linked to a decrease in physical activity and an increase in time spent sitting. Hyperkyphosis—a disruption of the normal physiological curvature of the thoracic spine—is one of the most common spinal deformities in adolescents. Complications of this condition, particularly Scheuermann’s disease, often lead to rigid deformity, chronic pain, postural abnormalities, limited mobility, and a reduced quality of life. During adolescence—a critical period for skeletal development and postural stability—such a condition can negatively affect not only physical health but also psychological well-being and social adaptation. Conservative treatment, particularly physical therapy, is traditionally considered the priority for initial or moderate deformities.
