Анотація

The article presents a comprehensive study of book design as a means of actualizing classical literature in the contemporary cultural space of Ukraine. The relevance of the research is обусловлена transformations in reading practices in the 21st century, caused by digitalization and changes in information consumption, which intensify the problem of communication between classical texts and modern readers. The study is based on the understanding of the book as a synthetic product of project culture, where design serves as an integral component in the formation of meaning. The aim of the article is to identify contemporary approaches to the visualization of Ukrainian classical literature and to determine the trends of its graphic reinterpretation. The methodological framework is grounded in an interdisciplinary approach that combines art studies, semiotics, book studies, and sociology of culture. Analytical, comparative, and semiotic methods are applied to examine the influence of structural elements of the book on text perception. The empirical basis of the research consists of the practices of leading Ukrainian publishing houses. The study identifies key visual strategies for the actualization of classical literature, including minimalism and modularity, decorative-emotional illustration, accent typography, geometric primitivism, and the conceptual artbook approach. It is demonstrated that design shapes a new reading experience through a system of visual codes, symbols, and metaphors. The paper analyzes publishing series by Vivat, Yakaboo Publishing, #книголав, Vikhola, and Osnovy, as well as individual design solutions that ensure a deeper interpretation of content. It is substantiated that contemporary book design effectively bridges the gap between classical literary heritage and modern audiences by integrating literature into the current cultural context. It is established that the visual language of the book plays a significant role in shaping national identity, preserving cultural memory, and representing Ukrainian culture in the global context.
