Анотація
This study examines linguistic differences in the public speeches of Prince William and Prince Harry. The aim of this study is to identify and compare the lexical and stylistic features in the public communication of both princes. Also, it aims to analyse changes that occur in their discourse over time. The study is based on the hypothesis that, despite being in the same institutional framework, Prince William and Prince Harry show different communicative strategies realised in their use of language. The material of the study includes two corpora: Corpus 1(for Prince William) and Corpus 2(for Prince Harry), with 42 official public speeches in total delivered between 2008 and 2025. Two corpora are further subdivided into pre-2018 and post-2018 subcorpora: Corpus 1a and Corpus 1b, and Corpus 2a and Corpus 2b. The methodological framework combines quantitative (corpus-based) analysis with qualitative interpretation. The results show that Corpus 1 can be characterised by a stable and institutional style. Corpus 2 shows some variations, namely in Corpus 2b (the post-2018 period). The findings demonstrate differences in lexical distribution, discourse strategies, and the use of stylistic features. They include modal verbs, evaluative language, and metaphorical expressions. To conclude, linguistic variation in Corpus 1 and Corpus 2 is influenced by both institutional constraints and individual communicative styles. The diachronic approach shows a change towards more personalised communication in Corpus 2.
