Abstract
The full-scale military invasion of the Russian Federation into the territory of Ukraine has brought an unprecedented crisis in the field of mental health, which is causing a long-term devastating impact on the civilian population, among which the most vulnerable group was young people. The young people included in the study studied at higher education institutions in Kyiv. The median age of the surveyed was 18.00 years. The study was carried out in two stages: stage 1 - from January 2024 to September 2025, i.e. for 1.8 years; stage 2 - from October 2025 to April 2026, i.e. for 0.7 years. The total size of the research sample in 2025 was n=316 people (n=88 men, n=228 women), in 2026 - n=308 people (n=68 men, n=240 women). To assess the mental health of young people, standardized screening tests were used: 1) Beck Depression Inventory (BDI); 2) General Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7); 3) Mood Disorder Questionnaire (MDQ); 4) Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PCL-5); 5) Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS). Analysis of the study results allowed us to generalize: 1) improvement in integral mental health indicators in the fourth year of the war, regardless of gender or migration status; 2) in 2026, the highest norm level was recorded in the settled population (80.33%), somewhat lower in IDPs (76.74%), and the lowest in external migrants (69.23%); 3) a person's mental activity adapts to a prolonged extreme reality, translating primary destructive reactions into stable, monotonous coping behavior.
