Abstract
The author scrutinizes the scientific works of the pre-revolutionary scientists on the problem of the territorial-administrative structure and the highest administration of the Russian Orthodox church in Ukraine. Characterizing the above-mentioned problems, the researchers stick to two alternative concepts – either that of the great Church or the ukrainocentric one. The first one justified the natural character of the monopoly of the Russian Orthodox Church in the confessional space of Ukraine in the second half of the XIX century. The other concept insisted on the unnatural character of the fact of the absorption of the Ukrainian church by the Russian one and defended the perspective of the institutional reinstatement of the Ukrainian Orthodoxy. As the result of the analysis, the author comes to a conclusion that all the constituents of the administrative state and administration of the Russian Orthodox Church in the second half of the XIX century became the subject of the scientific research yet in the pre-soviet stage. Among the key problems that were studied by the researchers of that time are the following: the development of the legislative base of the organization of the Orthodox Church, the particularities of the implementation of the administrative functions of the Holy Synod, of the prosecutor of the Synod.
