Abstract

The article analyzes Charles Dickens' first novel "The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club" (1836-1837) as a literary work that combines two, at first glance, opposite qualities: in a vertical (time-defined) paradigm it draws a certain conclusion to philosophical, moral and literary lessons of English Enlightenment, whose disciple Dickens was, and at the same time in a horizontal paradigm that represents the literary legacy of Dickens, the novel is a basis for all future works of the writer.
