Abstract
The paper analyzes the origins of the concept of "Rus 'people " through the formation of historical and genetic relationship between Princely Rus and Cossack Ukraine. The attention is focused on the role of Zaporozhian Army in shaping the views on Rus'people as an all-sufficient political community and the emergence of the state idea which is manifested in the form of Cossack autonomy.
