Abstract
This article deals with the problem of linguistic terminology. The semantic content of the concept “language” from the viewpoint of its essence for further development of linguistic science is analyzed according to the explanatory formula of notion content (EFNC) in the Greco-Latin linguistic tradition in early antiquity (VIII BC - II BC). We focus our attention on the classification of its definitions for significant specific features. It helps to define main elements of the characteristic structure of the concept, to submit links and relationships inside the concept as a system and a structure with its elements. The elements҆ connections and ratios could be shown in the generalized form with the common element inside.
