Abstract
The socio-economic, socio-political and socio-cultural distinctive features in modern Ukrainian society transformations cause the treatment to the problems of the middle class as a factor in improving the competitiveness of national economy. Its essence, the structure and functions were highlight; the general model of its genesis was analyzed; the peculiarities of social structure in a transition society were understand more deep; the status and prospects of the middle class in modern Ukraine were clarified.
