Abstract

The article addresses the work on the artistic image during the literature reading lessons in order to reach a great degree of understanding of the work of art. It also examines the specificity of work with epithets, as features of the figurative speech. The author illustrates the effective linguistic analysis methods with the help of which artistic images are created, because cultural perception of poetry and imagery of the artistic speech should be the bases for development of pupils’ speech culture and imagery of their language in particular. The following stages of work during the lesson have been examined: selective reading; observation of the artistic text; dictionary work; various forms of text illustration. Shaping the imaginative speech of junior pupils is based on taking into consideration the mechanism of artistic text comprehension and contains such key structural element as understanding of poetic words and image building on associative, imaginative thinking, phantasy accompanied by intellectual as well as speech activity and verbal creativity.
