In the article, based on the results of theoretical analysis and the study of perspective teaching pedagogy experience, the essence of the activity approach to the teaching students of pedagogical specialties in the educational process in a higher educational institution is highlighted. Defined and characterized the components of the student’s active position (the presence of stable learning motivation, the ability to formulate the goal and determine the ways and means of it’s achievement, the possession of subject and thinking activities that allow solving educational tasks, the ability to self-control and the self-assessment of the results of educational activities). Highlighted the ways of implementation the activity strategy for the student studying during the integrated course «Pedagogy» (content modules: «Historical and pedagogical studios of Western European and Ukrainian education», «Formation and development of preschool pedagogy in the historical retrospective»); the essence and components of the general (social, informational, communicative, self-education) and professional (educational, didactic, reflexive) competence of specialists in pre-school education
