Abstract

The article gives a theoretical analysis of psychological, pedagogical and methodological sources on the issue under consideration. The essence and definition of the concept “kindness” is studied out. It is found out that the senior preschool age is a sensitive period for development of a sense of kindness among children, because at this time a sense of their own capabilities, need for independent activity, basic ideas about the outworld, good and evil etc. are being formed. It is proved that an important condition of kindness education in a preschool institution is a sincere and effective display of adult’s love to a child, which encourages her/him to show good feelings in communication with others. The pedagogical approaches of different authors on the development of kindness among preschool-age children are highlighted. The forms, methods and means of developing kindness among older preschool-age children are characterized. The effective forms of forming a sense of kindness among children include the following: integrated classes, walks, cultural and leisure forms of work (birthdays celebration, evenings and mornings of kindness). The following methods are determined: observation, story, ethical conversations, moral dialogues, personal example, review and discussion of paintings and illustrations, fiction reading, socio-dramatic play, competitions, staging, work, suggestion, persuasion through explanation, discussion of moral situations, staging an example of positive behavior. The effective means of forming a sense of kindness include: fiction, Ukrainian folklore of various forms, fine arts, nature and the environment, films and animated cartoons, music, ethno-pedagogy. The structure and content of the author's teaching materials for educators on “Kindness will save the world” is given. The teaching materials on “Kindness will save the world” contain the following headings: 1) thematic planning on the development of a sense of kindness among older preschool-age children; 2) lesson plans based on the proposed thematic planning; 3) a catalog of didactic games and exercises; 4) a catalog of fairy-tales; 5) scenarios of educational activities; 6) psychological and pedagogical advice for parents.
