ZnO − Ag thin films were prepared by a two-stage method on glass and sapphire substrates. Doping with Ag was carried out by the method of close space sublimation at atmospheric pressure. The film thickness varied from 0.6 to 7 μm. The structural and radiative properties were explored by X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, photoluminescence and cathodoluminescence spectroscopy. The influence of preparation conditions on the properties of the ZnO − Ag films is studied. It is found, that doping with Ag modifies the crystalline structure of the films and promotes an oriented growth of monocrystal blocks with the sizes 500 − 2000 nm in [0002] direction. The improvement of crystalline properties of the films correlates with change of the inherent radiative characteristics. The origin of emission centers is discussed
