Abstract
The thesis focuses on the analysis of structure and functions of complex sentence with temporal subordinate clause in Early New High German. The research reveals significant changes in structure and composition of the left periphery of temporal clause. The findings indicate that the correlate usage becomes less frequent, and the declinable part of predicate gets a fixed position at the end of the clause. Additionally, subordinate clause becomes syntactically integrated in the matrix clause, and the usage of special temporal conjunctions increases at the expense of general temporal conjunctions. From a functional perspective complex sentence with temporal subordinate clause introduces a new temporal background, a direct and indirect speech, implements repeat, narrative, initial, expressive and imperative functions.
