Stetsenko, Y.S. Stepovyi, P.P. Sokalskyi and others. The goals, tasks and pedagogical conditions for studying this phenomenon were defined. On the grounds of elaborated criteria (the degree of interestof high school students in art, in particular the vocal heritage of Ukrainian composers, the ability to comprehend and evaluate the content of vocal composition, the measure of the capacity for expressive performance of a musical composition), indicators (the need to communicate with art and artistic and aesthetic phenomena, a desire to get a vocal education, the expression of interest in the study of Ukrainian vocal music, the ability to give a verbal description of the musical images of the vocal composition, the activity of emotional reaction during listening and performing of music, in particular vocal heritage of Ukrainian composers, the expression of an adequate reaction to the content of a musical composition, an integral reproduction of the artisticimage in the unity of content and expressive means of vocal composition, the possession of the basics of elementary vocal technique, the ability to use it accurately for the disclosure of musical and poetic images, the expression of a sense of measure in the stage interpretation of vocal music) the level (high, medium, low) of formation of artistic tastes among high school students was distinguished in the process of studying Ukrainian vocal music of the past. Experimental testing of the effectiveness of the method of forming artistic tastes of high school students in the process of studying vocal heritage of Ukrainian composers (late XIX -early XX century) was held at the school No5 (Pershotravnevsk), school No 25 (Melitopol), school No 292 named after Ivan Mazepa (Kyiv), Horoshkivskoyi school of Tetiiv district during extracurricular activities in the system of secondary school education. The author revealed the stages of forming the specified quality (organizational, motivational, informational and evaluational, creative and effective) and analyzed the results of statistical counting. The analysis of the results of the forming experiment was carried out using a control–comparative method, which was implemented by comparing the results obtained in the experimental and control groups. The levels of formation were determined using methods identical to the program of the experiment: the method of determining the type of general emotional orientation of students and their creative orientation (the task of determining the artistic appeal of a musical composition, the method of "musical and imaginative graphics" and the method of analyzing the performing interpretation of students).
