Abstract
The book analyzes the conditions of stay and the main manifestations of the cultural and educational activities of interned Ukrainian soldiers in the camp of Alexandróv (Poland) in 1921. Based on the use of a wide range of archival sources, the author concluded that, that the camp of everyday war was marked by considerable difficulties. It has been established in particular that during the first three months of internment in the camp the purity and order were not properly maintained, which led to a deterioration of the sanitary and epidemiological condition of the camp, causing a number of typhoid and other infectious diseases. But gradually, thanks to the efforts of Polish and Ukrainian doctors, the situation in the camp was normalized. A number of educational, cultural and artistic organizations, as well as a cooperative that had a positive influence on the moral spirit of warfare, was founded in Alexandróv. In addition, studying in camp schools, attending various educational courses allowed everyone to refill their knowledge of, which was extremely important in terms of emigration in view of the introduction of interned constructive content. Cultural and artistic organizations as well as the camp press successfully performed an extremely important mission of consolidating the national consciousness of war and strengthening their morale, which largely allowed preventing destructive processes in the environment of the interned. The vast majority of interned Ukrainians were ready to continue to withstand the disadvantages of the camp life, sincerely believing in the ideals of the Ukrainian People's Republic and the inevitability of overthrowing the Bolshevik regime in Ukraine.
