Abstract
The review of Ukrainian and Russian resources has been conducted with the purpose of determining the role of spirituality in sport and determining its influence on the re-sults of sports activities. Search words like “spirituality”, “spiritual health” and “sport” were used to find resources in the Russian scientific electronic library “eLibrary” and the V.I. Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine that has been published in the last ten years. 174 search results were found for the specified search words, and 45 sources were selected for analysis. Most of the analyzed scientific publications emphasize the significant role of spirituality in educating and training athletes of different age, but it is described in general way and without specific facts. Social importance of sport is also pointed out in these recourses. Authors point out the need of organizing the upbringing and training of athletes in such a way so that it forms a developed personality with high spiritual and moral qualities. However, evidence and statements about direct correlation between results of sport activity and developed spiritual and moral qualities were not found in either Ukrainian or Russian recourses. Only one source indicates the relationship between the occurrence of sports injuries and the level of athletes’ spiritual values and the social orientation. Important role of spirituality in sport, which is declared in the publications, requires the implementation of specific educational and philosophical systems, methods, programs, etc. in institutions where athletes are trained. The need of proving its influence on athletes’ achievements is also obvious. In order to do that special scientific research should be conducted so that it will be possible to discuss the influence of spirituality on sport activities.
