Abstract
The article provides the brief analysis of biographical papers, written by Dmitri Bantysh-Kamensky, in accordance with the evaluation of contemporaries. D. Bantysh-Kamensky’s biographical analytical reviews and collections of stories about famous representatives of Russian history have become one of the most important aspects of scholar’s scientific heritage, which allowed him to achieve famousness. In fact, these works appeared to be one of the first Russian topic-based biographical collections of stories. According to the scientific point of view, their value stems from the usage of rich and various factual bits of information, which was accumulated and analyzed by the author. The crucial key features were comprehensibility, clarity and faithfulness of narrative, a good literary language as well as considerable circulation for that period. Such aspects gave a chance for non-specialist audiences to find out about life and activity of famous Russian commanders, ministers, diplomats and writers. D. Bantysh-Kamensky’s biographical sketches were original works that considerably increased public interest in studying history.
