Abstract
The article deals with the nationally-aware activities of the representatives of the Union for the Liberation of Ukraine in the camp of prisoners from the structure of the Russian army Ismids in order to further distinguish among them the number of Ukrainians. It was supposed that the initiation of national and organizational work in their environment would contribute to the dismantling of the remnants of faith in the «king and fatherland» in the minds of captive Ukrainians. However, attempts by Union for the Liberation of Ukraine representatives to organize Ukrainians in Ismids camp had only a partial success in view of the unsystematic nature of their work in the prisoners' environment. In addition, the Ottoman Empire government was not ready to spend at least a significant amount of money for the creation of Ukrainian camps, which led to a reduction in the volume of national-organizational work among prisoners. For some time, the official Istanbul completely abandoned the idea of separation of captives by nationality, limited to the proclamation of only political slogans in support of Ukraine's independence.
