Abstract
The article describes an objective reproduction of the campaign for collecting signatures for the O.Scoropys-Yoltukhovsky’s authority to represent the rights and interests of the captives of the Ukrainian soldiers in Rastatt camp (Germany) in front of the Russian Provisional Government. The purpose of this article is to recreate the organizational efforts of the Ukrainian autonomous community «Independent Ukraine» in this matter, as well as the definition of factors contributing to this campaign on the one hand, and on the other, it significantly complicated it. The tasks of the article include the definition of the peculiarities of the tomb's acceptance of the initiative of collecting signatures, the establishment of forms and methods of communication with POWs with Ukrainian camp assets, as well as evaluating the effectiveness of a signing campaign, which directly correlated with the level of national and social development of various groups of Ukrainian prisoners of war. Analyzing this problem, it should be emphasized that the February Revolution in Russia destroyed most of the internal barriers that prevented POWs from joining the Ukrainian cause. In addition, it became a powerful factor in spreading the national consciousness of POWs not only in the camp but also in the working teams, influencing even those who initially were responsible for cultural and educational work in the camp. Therefore, a significant number of Captives demonstrated a high degree of national and civic consciousness, successfully completing this «exam» of their own political maturity. At the same time, it should be noted that the influence of revolutionary events in Russia made a significant number of prisoners of war only a superficial influence, which conditioned their unpreparedness to break resolutely with the deadly legacy of the «Russian World». Their pro-Russian people could not be quickly dismantled, and thus, all efforts of the Ukrainian camp's assets to reach their hearts remained in vain. Although, in this case, the members of the «Independent Ukraine» camp community did not stop their activities and aimed at the national-political awareness of this part of Ukrainian POWs. In conclusion, further development of the Ukrainian national liberation movement prompted the majority of POWs to make their conscious choice and support the slogans of the Ukrainian People's Republic.
