Abstract

The article discusses the activity of the Union of Rusins and Ukrainians of Yugoslavia (since the late 1990s the Union of Rusins and Ukrainians of Serbia and Montenegro) for the first ten years after its creation (May 12, 1990). The author analused the reports of the fellowship published in the periodicals of the Union as well as other diaspora periodicals related to it. The Union aimed at unifying the Ukrainian and Rusin community not only in Serbia, but also in the post-Yugoslav space. The organizational work of the union was aimed at supporting the ethnic and cultural traditions of the Rusins, Ukrainians, as well as other representatives of national minorities, primarily in Serbia. The Union cooperated with the diplomatic institutions of Ukraine in Serbia, actively communicated with Ukrainian colleagues. In the 1990s, the Union of Rusins and Ukrainians of Serbia and Montenegro demonstrated tolerance and struggle for the preservation of the rights of all national minorities in the post-Yugoslav space.
