The article presents the results of theoretical analysis and empirical study of cognitive and affective sphere of adolescents. The aim of the study was to determine the nature and specificity of adolescents’ typical cognitions and emotions in context of their personal formation. In the course of research work there were established the manifestations of emotional characteristics of respondents and leading maladaptive cognitive schemas; determined the specifics of the correlations between the variables; made a comparative analysis of the characteristics of two groups of subjects: younger and older adolescents. The methods of empirical research were Dusseldorf Illustrated Schema Questionnaire (children’s version) and Individual Typological Questionnaire (adolescent’s version) Statistical processing of the obtained data was carried out with the help of correlation analysis (Spearman’s correlation coefficient). As a result of the research work, it was found that there is a direct correlation between cognitions and emotions in the context of adolescents’ personal formation. Particularly, it was determined that a larger number of maladaptive cognitive schemas were typical for older adolescents, which may indicate an exacerbation of personality formation crisis at this age stage. In addition, the older group of subjects was characterized by a stronger correlation between emotional manifestations and core beliefs. This suggests that the intensification of maladaptive schemas manifestation leads to exacerbation of emotional manifestations. According to this there was formulated a conclusion that typical cognitions generate habitual emotional reactions, which repeat many times, transform into personal manifestations of emotionality and, in turn, reinforce leading cognitive patterns, including maladaptive schemas. The prospects for further scientific researches in this area are to expand the age range of the subjects and to compare the characteristics of cognitive and affective sphere of adolescents with the corresponding characteristics of children and juveniles. The other prospect is to hold a practice-oriented study of methods and strategies for targeted psychological impact on the cognitive and affective sphere of adolescents with the aim of reducing the pathological effects of maladaptive cognitive schemas on their life and psychological well being.
